Jalostotitlán, Jal *part 1
It was a Friday morning when we started our drive back to Guadalajara to go stay with Oscar's family in Jalos. We stopped in DT Puerto Vallarta for some breakfast (and to pee) before making our journey. The drive right away was much better since we could actually see the scenery and enjoy the views of all the passing towns. I loved the sounds and fresh earth-y smells of Puerto Vallarta, all the hills covered in dense green jungles...it's amazing how quickly the land changes as you make your way inland. We took the non- toll roads because it was wayyy cheaper from the last highway we took. The drive would take bit longer but it was worth seeing new places and towns, it's crazy how the lands change so quickly! We went through jungle to deserts to forest and down to the valley, we made our way through Las Palmas, Mascota, Atenguillo, Ameca, Tala etc...back to Guadalajara (which if you think the traffic in LA is bad then you are not cut out for this.)
The sun was beginning to set at this point, we were due in Jalos at 8:05pm -so my trusty maps stated- but we oblivious to the immense traffic making our way through Guadalajara that evening (on a Friday) that we did not make it to the house till 10 something. Now, the whole point of us even going on vacation was to attend the towns annual carnival for "Las Fiestas de Febrero" which is this big event that lasts a whole week and all kinds of local and big celebs attend. Bottom line is that the WHOLE town is in party mode. There's parades, concerts, food, traditional events like the bulls and rooster fights, mariachis everywhere and local artisans selling and making their crafts.
After we dropped off our things, we walked to la plaza where they have the main nightly events and......you guys I'm not even kidding on how crazy and packed it was! Never seen such a small area fit so many people, and not even that, there was all sorts of vendors selling ALL kinds of food and drinks, bandas playing their music, florist selling beautiful arrangements, and just people selling all kinds of different souvenirs and such. Too many different smells and sights to see, I was overwhelmed and still tired and sleepy from the drive to be able to take anything in honestly lol his aunts took us to this little taco stand where I stuffed down 5 tacos and called it a night.
