Valle de Guadalupe, Ensenada BC, Mexico
It was my aunts 45th anniversary (birthday) a couple weeks ago- or at least it WAS when I first started to write this post hehehe- and we took a trip down to Ensenada with the family to celebrate.
This wasn't the first time I've been to the wine valley here in Ensenada, my aunts first introduced it a couple years ago as they are avid goers themselves. Whenever I can stick with them I do, they know all the best spots for wine and restaurants to eat at and this was no different. We made our drive from Tijuana early in the morning because we wanted to stop and have breakfast at La Cocina de Doña Esthela which is THEE BEST breakfast you will everrrr have. hands down. no joke.
Food is fresh, home made and delicious! I feel like this mostly a break/brunch place but they do have food choices for more of a dinner option but trust, you would want to STILL eat breakfast at dinner with how amazing this food is. This was my first time here but my aunts come here all the time, one of them comes here (just for breakfast with her kids and husband) for sure once a month-minimum. I would come here every other weekend if I could!
They have fresh cheese and chips and salsa to get you started, and I ordered the combination "Esthela" plate which comes with refried beans and a little of the house favorites which include machaca, flour or corn quesadilla and a red enchilada (cheese or chicken.) To drink we got café de olla and some freshly squeezed orange juice. I think the big win for me was also the home made tortillas...God knows how much I love tortillas and how all I would eat would be homemade corn OR flour tortillas if I could every day! They have their small farm out back and all eggs are from their own coops and cheese is local or from their farm. Its a small place in the middle of nowhere but totally worth the long wait and trip.
After brunch we took my aunt to one of the local wineries for a relaxing afternoon. We had some white and red wine, talked, laughed and even my NANA had some wine! (she doesn't drink unless it's the wine they give you in mass lol) but yeah I think we were all enjoying ourselves. Before leaving Ensenada we went down town to a small bakery La Reyna where they have fresh French inspired baked goods- super cheap- and oh so delicious! Over all it was a great day trip that I got to spend with family and celebrate my aunt!
