Jalisco, Mexico
This past month I was invited to tag along with my boyfriends family to their home town of Jalostotitlán in Jalisco, MX. It so happens that my family (mom's side) is from the state of Jalisco as well, my grandparents were born in towns an hour or so outside the capital of Guadalajara. Jalostotitlán is just a little over an hour drive from Guadalajara if you take the toll road, they have maintained it fairly well and its a smooth drive (compared to many of the other roads and streets.)
Our plan was, after landing in Guadalajara, to drive to Puerto Vallarta. I mean why not right! I had previously reserved the car rental and the rooms we would be staying at, we headed there later than we have liked due to inconveniences at the car rental place, but once we hit the road it really hit me...I'M ON VACATIONNN!!
Our 6 hour drive took us all along the edges of towns like Amatitlán, Tequila, and the hometown of my nana-Magdalena, crossed over into the neighboring state of Nayarit and headed to the coast. We drove by Compostela, Mesilas, Sayulita and Bucerias just to name a few. Our place was about 20min south of Puerto Vallarta at a town called Mismaloya. We did not get to our BnB till almost 1am! Which we quickly fell asleep after arriving, even at night we saw how alive the town was. It was BEAUTIFUL. It's old houses and buildings, the stone covered streets- right in the edge of a jungle- was something I can picture myself living in retirement hehehe.
The next day we got up as early as we could. I'm not regularly a morning person but since it was officially our first day of vacation, we did not want to waste time in bed, but I'm not gonna lie guys...I could have stayed in bed with those views ALL day! It was gorgeous. The topiary, the ocean, the nice warm weather...all incredible. I wanted to do everything and anything but we only had that one full day before we had to drive back to Jalos, and we drove back to downtown Puerto Vallarta.
It was such an amazing day, not too humid or hot, there was a nice breeze through out and mostly clear skies. It is definitely a place you need more days to spend at, people are friendly and happy. You could pick any corner and have a tasty lunch or dinner. The churches and plazas are full of color where local merchants sell their crafts. Night or day you can find something to do, somewhere to eat. Puerto Vallarta/Mismaloya was an awesome start to my getaway.
